April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball athletes to win medals at many Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days, she'll be aiming to claim her third Olympic medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic medal. At 39, this could be her last opportunity to accomplish this. However, she's convinced that top prizes can be achieved. If we play our best or even if we play well I feel like we'll win the gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. It's also going to be a matter of chance. Ross was born in California in the city of Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and sister. While at Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of sports. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball as well as basketball, running and track. While she did well at indoor volleyball, it was clear that her performance was above the average. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker, outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball, according to her bio at the college. The award was presented to her as the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999, for her performance. Her volleyball skills also brought her the Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in the year 2000. Ross and Klineman formed their partnership in 2017, but Ross was a beach scene player for years prior to. The American has been a major winner in tournaments twice with different partners. One of them is an iconic player in the volleyball world. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 until 2013. She also worked with Klineman and herself. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be a formidable force in the international arena, taking home the 2009 World Championship with each other. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they received a gold medal. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team which took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat each other to take home the gold medal. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor after she had retired. Both went on to win the bronze beach volleyball trophy at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC in her college the years prior to her professional career. And her run at the school was an impressive one. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of Year in the year 2000, a young freshman. In addition, she helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. In her sophomore season, she experienced a terrible personal tragedy, but managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Over her final two years as a player, she led the Trojans towards the summit of the mountain netting three consecutive championships at the national level. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend by winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter achieve the heights of beach volleyball. Ross's mother died of breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. Ross holds her mother dear. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her, both on and off the beach.
